The incident occurred after the mother confiscated her son’s phone for playing games. In the video, the teenager can be seen repeatedly hitting and kicking his mother, who falls to the ground. Security personnel intervened to separate the two, but the boy continued to lunge at his mother.
The Beijing police Weibo account shared a separate clip of the altercation, with an officer advising the mother to communicate more and stay calm as the teenager was 15 years old and had his own way of thinking. The video has sparked outrage on social media, with many expressing concern over the teenager’s behaviour.
While some attributed the incident to the teenager’s gaming addiction, others believed that it was a matter of character. The incident has also prompted debate over parenting and education in China. Some blamed the mother for losing control of her emotions, while others pointed to the failure of parents and education as the cause.
