2-12-2025 (BANGKOK) A 69-year-old American man was discovered dead in the bathroom of an eight-storey hotel in Na Jomtien, Sattahip district, Chonburi province, on Monday afternoon, his hands cuffed behind his back and a black plastic bag over his head.
Hotel staff found the body of the guest, identified only as Michael, after he failed to check out and did not answer calls or knocks. The maid used a master key and located him wearing only brown shorts, with no shirt.
Police reported no signs of struggle or ransacked belongings in the room. Officers from Na Jomtien Police Station and forensic teams are examining CCTV footage from inside and around the property. Initial investigations lean toward an unusual form of self-harm, though foul play has not been ruled out.
The body has been transferred to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities will contact the U.S. Embassy and the man’s family once results are confirmed.
