28-9-2023 (QUITO) Manuel Julian Sevillano Bustamante, a 39-year-old man believed to be the leader of the “Los Fatales” drug trafficking gang, was killed in a shooting on September 13. His funeral, however, has raised eyebrows as he was buried with an arsenal of weapons, including handguns, shotguns, and rifles.
According to reports, Bustamante was killed while in a car with his 20-year-old daughter and a bodyguard. The daughter died later from her injuries sustained in the shooting. It is believed that Bustamante’s killers had lain in wait for him at the car wash where he was killed, as he had visited the same car wash regularly.
The funeral, which took place on September 17, was attended by many people, including what appeared to be members of the drug trafficking gang. In a video circulating online, Bustamante can be seen lying in his coffin with several weapons placed on top of him, including handguns, shotguns, and rifles.
The unusual funeral has sparked concern among authorities, who fear that the weapons may be stolen from the coffin by those seeking to acquire them. The authorities also suspect that the killing may be the result of a turf war between rival drug trafficking gangs.
The “Los Fatales” gang, which operates in the Los Rios region of Ecuador, has been linked to other drug trafficking organizations in the country. Bustamante’s killing and the subsequent funeral have highlighted the ongoing problem of drug-related violence in Ecuador and the measures that drug traffickers will take to protect themselves.
