10-9-2023 (BANGKOK) Six police officers have faced dismissal from the police force due to their alleged involvement in a shooting incident that occurred during a dinner party hosted by a tambon chief (kamnan) in Nakhon Pathom on a fateful Wednesday night.
This distressing episode resulted in the tragic death of Pol Maj Siwakorn Saibua, an officer at highway police station 1 under Highway Police Sub-division 2, and the injury of Pol Lt Col Wasin Pandee, deputy commander of Highway Police Sub-division 2.
The six officers who have been relieved of their duties are identified as Pol Lt Prasarn Rodpol, Pol Capt Narongsak Taeng-ampai, Pol Capt Natthapol Nakkorn, and Pol S/Lt Sansern Srisawat, all from highway police station 1. The remaining two officers are Pol Maj Kiatisak Somsuk, an investigator at Krathum Baen police station in Samut Sakhon province, and Pol Lt Nimit Salidkul, a traffic police officer at Muang police station in Nakhon Pathom.
Their actions are under scrutiny, as they stand accused of obstructing the investigation by destroying crucial evidence related to the crime. Furthermore, they are alleged to have aided the suspected gunman, Thananchai Manmak, and the kamnan, Praween Chankhlai, in evading the law. While Thananchai Manmak met his end in a police shootout in Kanchanaburi province, Praween Chankhlai surrendered to authorities.
The dismissal orders took effect on September 9, and all six officers are currently subject to a rigorous disciplinary investigation. These actions demonstrate the commitment to upholding the integrity and accountability within the police force.
In addition to these dismissals, a Corrections Department official has also been relieved of their position and is currently under investigation for their alleged involvement in the shooting incident.
