4-12-2025 (JAKARTA) A large stretch of a vital rural highway in West Sumatra has collapsed into a deep ravine, creating a 20–30 metre-wide chasm that continues to expand as chunks of asphalt and earth plunge downward.

Video footage recorded in late November shows the road disintegrating in real time, with cracks rapidly widening before entire sections break away. The failure occurred along a key route linking remote districts in the province, which has been battered by weeks of torrential rain, flash floods, and landslides.
The collapse is part of a broader disaster that has claimed dozens of lives across Sumatra and left thousands displaced. Heavy rainfall triggered multiple landslides that washed away bridges, buried villages, and severed transport links, hampering rescue and relief efforts.
