17-7-2024 (BANGKOK) Pol. Lt. Col. Nopphasin Poolsawat, the deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, has unveiled a chilling timeline surrounding the deaths of six individuals – three men and three women – whose bodies were discovered in room 502 of the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel on July 16, 2024. As the investigation unfolds, a sinister web of deception and greed emerges, shedding light on the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
According to Pol. Lt. Col. Nopphasin, the sequence of events began when a 56-year-old American woman, the sole occupant of the hotel room, was visited by staff members who brought her food and drinks. Curiously, despite the staff’s insistence on preparing her tea, the woman adamantly refused assistance, opting to make it herself. This seemingly innocuous decision would prove to be a fateful turning point.
Surveillance footage from the hotel’s CCTV system has provided invaluable insights into the unfolding tragedy. The footage clearly shows that after five other individuals – three men and two women – joined the American woman in the room at approximately 2:17 p.m., no one else entered or exited the premises. The eerie silence that followed would be shattered by the grim discovery of six lifeless bodies the following day.
As the investigation progressed, a complex web of deceit and greed began to unravel. Among the deceased was a married couple, aged 47 and 49, who owned a road construction contracting business. The woman, clad in a pink shirt, and her husband had been lured into a purported investment opportunity by the American woman, who acted as a broker.
The couple had invested a staggering 10 million Thai baht, with the promise of using the funds to establish a hospital in Japan. However, as time passed, they grew increasingly frustrated by the lack of progress and the American woman’s failure to deliver on her promises. Tensions escalated, prompting a meeting in Thailand to resolve the matter, as visa issues had prevented them from convening in Japan as initially planned.
Tragically, their quest for answers and restitution took a devastating turn. According to the authorities, one of the six individuals present in the hotel room resorted to drugging the others, leading to their untimely demise. The motive behind this heinous act remains shrouded in mystery, but the consequences have left a trail of shattered lives and unanswered questions.
In a poignant detail, Pol. Lt. Col. Nopphasin revealed that the group had intended to pay homage at the renowned Wat Yannawa temple after resolving their financial dispute. However, their plans were tragically cut short by the unfolding events, leaving the once-vibrant lives extinguished in a cloud of deceit and betrayal.
