6-10-2024 (SINGAPORE) A shocking incident of violence unfolded on Saturday evening near a popular recreational spot in Jurong, resulting in the hospitalisation of a forklift driver and the arrest of five individuals. The altercation, which took place around 8 pm at 1 Yuan Ching Road, close to the car park behind Super Bowl Jurong.
Eyewitness accounts paint a disturbing picture of the event. Mr Zhang, a 44-year-old car dealer who was dining nearby, recounted the horrifying scene he stumbled upon while visiting the toilet. “I saw several men beating another person with iron bars. The victim was clearly outnumbered, and his head was bleeding profusely,” Zhang stated. In a desperate attempt to halt the violence, Zhang shouted that he was a police officer, but to no avail. Left with no other option, he promptly alerted the authorities.
Another witness, Mohammad Ali, 56, described encountering a man lying on the ground with severe head injuries as he passed by with his wife. “Medical staff were administering first aid, and we observed several individuals being questioned by the police,” Ali reported.
The victim, identified as a forklift driver in his early 40s, was reportedly attending a barbecue party with friends when the incident occurred. A friend of the victim, speaking on condition of anonymity, vehemently denied allegations of molestation that supposedly triggered the assault.
According to the victim’s associates, the altercation began when the forklift driver glanced at a woman accompanying the attackers outside the toilet. When confronted about his gaze, the victim reportedly retorted, leading to the violent outbreak.
Upon arrival at the scene, journalists observed a heavy police presence, with four patrol cars on site. A blood-stained fluorescent safety jacket was found discarded near a rubbish bin outside the toilet, serving as a grim reminder of the brutality that had transpired.
In response to inquiries, local law enforcement confirmed that they had received a report of the incident. A 41-year-old man was conveyed to the hospital in a conscious state. Subsequently, five individuals were arrested in connection with the assault. Two men and one woman, aged between 32 and 42, face charges of affray, while two other men, aged 40 and 35, have been apprehended for intentional wounding with a dangerous weapon and rioting.
