5-7-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) Taking to Facebook on Friday, Anwar expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Starmer and his team, envisioning the development of a new strategic relationship built on the pillars of inclusivity, equality, mutual respect, people-to-people connections, and a shared vision for the future.
The Labour Party’s resounding triumph, securing over 400 seats in the 650-seat British parliament, marks the end of the Conservative Party’s 14-year reign and ushers in a new era of governance for the United Kingdom.
In his message, Anwar underscored the enduring partnership between Malaysia and Britain, woven through the tapestry of history and fortified by the close bonds of kinship. “The partnership between Malaysia and Britain is an enduring one, woven through history and strengthened by the close bonds of kith and kin,” he stated.
Recognizing the potential for economic cooperation, Anwar highlighted Britain’s participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) as a significant opportunity to broaden the horizons of the economic partnership between the two nations. Britain signed an accession protocol in 2023 to join the CPTPP, a trade agreement involving a group of countries, including Malaysia, subject to ratification by all parties.
Moreover, Anwar emphasized the pivotal role of the Five Power Defence Arrangements in serving as a cornerstone for mutual security, enhancing regional stability and fostering closer defence cooperation. The Five Power Defence Arrangements are a series of multilateral agreements that establish bilateral defence relationships between Commonwealth members, including Malaysia and Britain.
