8-5-2024 (BEIJING) China’s foreign ministry extended congratulations to Vladimir Putin on his inauguration as president of Russia, as stated by a spokesperson on Wednesday (May 8).
“China congratulates President Putin on his inauguration,” affirmed Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, highlighting that President Xi Jinping had previously conveyed a congratulatory message to Putin upon his re-election.
Lin emphasised the continued robustness of Sino-Russian relations under the strategic guidance of the two leaders.
“China places great importance on the strategic leadership role of head-of-state diplomacy in bilateral relations between the two countries. The two heads of state have agreed to maintain close exchanges to ensure the smooth and stable development of Sino-Russian relations,” he remarked.
The Kremlin ceremony swearing in Putin for a new six-year term as president on Tuesday was notably boycotted by the United States and the majority of European Union nations, citing Russia’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.
