8-9-2023 (KYIV) In a devastating escalation of violence, Ukraine has been hit by a fresh wave of Russian air strikes, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuring dozens more. The attacks occurred in the central and eastern regions of the country on Friday (Sep 8).
Interior Minister Igor Klymenko confirmed that three civilians, including two women and a man, were killed in the southern region of Kherson, specifically in the town of Odradokamyanka, located 60km upstream of Kherson city and situated on the west bank of the Dnipro river. Klymenko denounced the strike as a “war crime”.
In addition, a missile attack on a police building in the central city of Kryvyi Rig, which is also President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown, resulted in the death of a policeman, according to Klymenko. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service managed to pull out three more people from under the rubble, who are in critical condition.
The attack on Kryvyi Rig left over 40 people injured, according to local officials. Russia also launched strikes on the city of Sumy in northeast Ukraine, injuring at least three people, and on Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, where one man was injured by a rocket attack.
Yuriy Malashko, head of the local administration in Zaporizhzhia, reported that over the past 24 hours, 93 enemy attacks on 29 towns and villages in the region have been recorded.
