21-10-2023 (SINGAPORE) In the wake of a 12-day island wide operation conducted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) that concluded on Friday, two 14-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of drug-related offenses, particularly involving crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice.”
The first arrest took place on October 8th when police, acting on intelligence, detained one of the 14-year-olds in a residence located in the vicinity of Yishun Street 51. Authorities seized approximately 1 gram of ice along with other drug paraphernalia during this operation, according to a CNB press release issued on Saturday.
Later on the same evening, a follow-up operation carried out by CNB officers led to the apprehension of the second 14-year-old, alongside his 22-year-old brother, in a house near Canberra Street. During this operation, a significant quantity of approximately 17 grams of ice was discovered.
These two juveniles were part of a broader crackdown on suspected drug offenders that resulted in the arrest of 134 individuals during the 12-day operation. The operation yielded a substantial haul of illegal substances, including approximately 10 kilograms of cannabis, 1.3 kilograms of heroin, 600 grams of new psychoactive substances, 373 grams of ice, 1 gram of ketamine, 103 ecstasy tablets, 111 erimin-5 tablets, three LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps, and two bottles of GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate). The estimated street value of these seized substances amounts to around S$600,000.
The island wide operation covered a range of areas, including Bedok, Clementi, Hougang, River Valley, and Tiong Bahru. On Tuesday, CNB officers also carried out a raid on a commercial unit situated in the vicinity of Serangoon North, leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman. During the operation, authorities seized approximately 980 grams of heroin, 250 grams of cannabis, and 19 grams of ice. Subsequently, the two suspects were escorted to a residence near Woodlands Drive 62, where another 25 grams of heroin were discovered.
It’s important to note that individuals found guilty of trafficking more than 15 grams of pure heroin may face the death penalty under Singaporean law.
Investigations into these cases are currently ongoing.
