29-1-2024 (BANGKOK) A tragic incident unfolded at Narknarwaouptump School in Suan Luang district on Monday morning, as a 14-year-old student stabbed and killed another boy. According to the police, the alleged attacker claimed that the victim had been extorting money from him and subjecting him to physical assault over the past two weeks.
The stabbing took place at approximately 8:35 am, as students were being dismissed from their morning assembly at the school located on Pattanakan 26 Road. Pol Col Wachirakorn Wongboon, the chief of Khlongtan police station, revealed that during the interrogation, which involved teachers and the mother of the deceased boy, the 14-year-old assailant admitted to frequently extorting 20 baht from him during lunch breaks.
The alleged extortionist allegedly used the money for purchasing cigarettes, and in addition to the monetary demands, he reportedly punched the other student in the head and face. Despite being of the same age, the two boys studied in different classrooms.
“The boy had been subjected to this treatment three or four times over the past two weeks. Holding a grudge, he purchased a knife and brought it to school this morning,” explained Pol Col Wachirakorn.
However, the police are yet to verify the claims made by the attacker by interviewing witnesses who might have observed such behavior. The station chief confirmed that the assailant appeared mentally stable and provided clear answers during the police questioning. A psychologist present during the interrogation also concluded that the boy seemed mentally normal. Nevertheless, the police will arrange for a mental health evaluation to ensure a comprehensive assessment of the situation.
This new information contradicts earlier speculation that the attacker might have had special needs. Furthermore, authorities did not find any evidence of drug abuse in the suspect’s urine. The 14-year-old admitted to smoking cannabis once in September of last year, but it is unrelated to the current incident, clarified the station chief.
