5-11-2024 (SINGAPORE) Another Malaysian national has been charged in connection with the brazen armed robbery at a luxury Bukit Timah residence that saw perpetrators make off with more than S$4.34 million in stolen goods.
Huang Zhishan, 33, appeared before Singapore’s National Court on Tuesday facing charges of gang robbery while armed with deadly weapons. He is the sixth Malaysian suspect to be charged in the case that shocked Singapore’s affluent Bukit Timah district.
The pre-dawn raid occurred at approximately 2:05 am on 18 April 2024, when a group of armed men wielding machetes and baseball bats stormed a private residence in King Albert Park. Court documents reveal the perpetrators targeted 11 individuals aged between 25 and 45, though the charges specifically detail the robbery of six victims.
The latest arrest follows the earlier apprehension of five Malaysian nationals: Wu Wentong, 28, Muhammad Tauffiq bin Ahmad Fauzi, 32, Mohd Hashim Bin Ismail, 49, Mohd Hamidon Bin Ahmed, 47, and Kartik Palaniappan, 32. The suspects were arrested through a joint operation between Singapore’s Police Force and the Royal Malaysian Police after fleeing across the border.
Prosecutors successfully applied for Huang to be remanded for seven days to assist with ongoing investigations. His case has been adjourned until 12 November, whilst his five co-accused remain in pre-trial conference stages.
The charge of gang robbery while armed carries severe penalties under Singapore law, with convicted offenders facing up to 20 years’ imprisonment and 24 strokes of the cane.
Court documents indicate the accused not only robbed their victims but also illegally detained them, though specific details regarding five of the victims’ losses were not disclosed in the charges.
