30-11-2023 (BANGKOK) A landlord in Bangkok was left astounded after discovering a room rented out for a decade to a seemingly respectable 42-year-old female government official concealed an overwhelming amount of rubbish, requiring 250 garbage bags for removal.
The startling discovery unfolded when Panadda, the landlord, received complaints from other tenants about unpleasant odors, rats, and worms emanating from the room. Despite the tenant not having returned for two years, she faithfully paid the monthly rent of 1,500 baht. Panadda, recounting the distressing moment, expressed her shock at the massive pile of junk reaching the ceiling, infested with worms, rats, and cockroaches.
“My father-in-law and I even cried. We couldn’t accept what we saw. I was shocked by the enormous pile of junk, which was high to the ceiling and some of which had been opened to bring the waste in and pack it as well. The wardrobe was packed full of trash. Worms, rats, and cockroaches are abundant in the waste pile. Some of them were dead and left traces along the room’s walls,” Panadda stated.
Sharing her ordeal on Facebook, Panadda revealed seeking assistance from neighbors, accumulating a total of 250 large garbage bags to clear the room. Despite extensive cleaning efforts, including the use of various detergents, the foul odor persists, leading Panadda to believe that a complete renovation is unavoidable.
When contacted, the tenant expressed dissatisfaction, claiming the landlord failed to inform her in advance and insisted there were valuables in the room. However, Panadda maintained that only piles of trash were discovered. The incident has been reported to the Hua Mak police, escalating the situation between the landlord and the tenant.
