16-8-2023 (BANGKOK) Police officers stationed at Don Mueang International Airport are facing criticism from online communities after failing to swiftly handle an aggressive incident involving a Chinese tourist, which transpired at the Bangkok airport on Wednesday night.
A video recording capturing the incident was shared on the Facebook page named “Yak Dung Diew Jad Hai” on Thursday, showcasing a Chinese man causing a commotion at the international terminal. The uproar unfolded after he was denied boarding onto a plane destined for China. The clip vividly portrays the tourist shouting at officials stationed at the airport in response to the flight-related complications he was encountering.
According to the post, the incident occurred around midnight on Wednesday, August 9. The airline reportedly announced a gate change for the flight, a development that infuriated the tourist. Subsequently, the flight’s captain took the decision to prohibit the man from boarding the aircraft, escalating his frustration further. This escalation culminated in a confrontation where the individual vociferously confronted airport officials.
The video exhibits the involvement of three police officers who approached the man with the intention of removing him from the scene. However, the situation escalated when the tourist repeatedly attempted to wield a skateboard he was carrying to strike the officers. This intense confrontation endured for several minutes before the tourist was eventually escorted out of the premises without causing any physical harm.
In the aftermath of the video’s circulation, numerous netizens have expressed their dissatisfaction with the police officers’ approach to handling the situation. Critics argue that rather than merely encircling the aggressive individual, the officers should have promptly taken decisive action to restrain and neutralize the threat he posed, specifically by preventing him from wielding the skateboard as a potential weapon.
Questions regarding the officers’ indecisiveness and their ability to manage the incident were raised by one netizen who commented, “How can police officers be indecisive like this?” Another individual added, “It’s three against one. They could have handled this sooner.”
As reported by a reliable news source, the individual at the center of the incident was a 45-year-old Chinese national. Following negotiations with the airline, he was eventually issued a ticket to return to China, departing from the country on Thursday.
