23-6-2023 (NEW YORK) Billionaire’s son terrified of expedition, says aunt: Suleman Dawood, the 19-year-old son of Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood, was terrified of the Titanic submersible expedition he was on, according to his aunt, a day after the vessel suffered a “catastrophic implosion”. Suleman joined the trip only because of his “Titanic-obsessed” father, his aunt Azmeh Dawood revealed. Shahzada and Suleman reportedly spent half a million dollars on the exclusive excursion. The Dawood empire, of which Shahzada was the vice chairman, includes Engro, a conglomerate with investments in energy, agriculture, petrochemical, and telecommunications ventures that generated a revenue of $1.2 billion last year.
In an interview with NBC News, Azmeh Dawood expressed her concerns for her nephew. “I am thinking of Suleman, who is 19, in there, just perhaps gasping for breath. I feel very bad that the whole world has had to go through so much trauma, so much suspense. I feel like I’ve been caught in a really bad film, with a countdown, but you didn’t know what you’re counting down to. I personally have found it kind of difficult to breathe thinking of them,” she said.
Despite his fears, Suleman was described as a big fan of science fiction literature and learning new things. His father, Shahzada, was a “loving father” with a passion for photography, especially wildlife photography, and exploring different natural habitats, according to a family statement. Shahzada’s father, Hussain Dawood, was one of Pakistan’s richest men, and the Dawood empire has become one of the most profitable in the country.
