26-12-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A Singaporean man, Julius Lee, experienced a terrifying incident on Christmas day when a Christmas tree fell on him at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The incident occurred as Lee was taking photos of his wife and child near an indoor merry-go-round.
Lee’s wife, Aileen Tan, recounted the shocking incident, stating that the tree fell suddenly and struck her husband’s head. Fortunately, their three-year-old child, who was with Tan at the time, remained unharmed. Tan expressed relief that their child was not in a stroller, as she would have been in the tree’s path. However, she was startled by the incident and began crying.
Although Lee’s injuries were not severe, his head swelled due to the impact. Mall management staff promptly took him to a nearby clinic for medical attention. Concerned shoppers rushed to assist Lee before the mall’s security team arrived. The fallen tree was swiftly removed from the area.
The Christmas tree in question was part of a collection of trees that formed a larger centerpiece in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. These trees were suspended from the mall’s high ceiling, with some designed to rotate, creating a festive atmosphere.
Following the incident, Pavilion KL issued an official statement on their Facebook page at 8:39 PM on Christmas day. They expressed regret for the falling of a Christmas tree branch that made contact with Mr. Lee. The management detailed the immediate response of their medical and safety teams, and reassured the public that Lee had only suffered a minor graze. They also emphasized their commitment to prioritizing safety and security by sealing off the tree area and conducting thorough checks on all decorations.
Pavilion KL assured shoppers that they would continue to implement precautionary measures to ensure the safety of visitors. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular inspections and maintenance to prevent accidents during the festive season.
