13-7-2024 (SINGAPORE) A 56-year-old man found himself at the center of a police investigation after his car allegedly plunged into the iconic Fountain of Wealth at Suntec City in the early hours of July 13. The shocking incident has left authorities puzzled and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The incident came to light when photos surfaced on social media, depicting a light-colored car overturned in the fountain, with debris scattered across the vicinity. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the police were alerted to the road traffic accident at 3 Temasek Boulevard at around 12:20 a.m. on July 13.
According to the police, the male driver was conscious when he was taken to the hospital, and he is currently being investigated for dangerous driving. The authorities have stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing, leaving the public eagerly awaiting further details.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for Suntec City confirmed that the mall is aware of the situation and is fully cooperating with the authorities’ investigation. However, due to the ongoing nature of the inquiry, the spokesperson refrained from providing additional comments or details until the investigation is complete.
The Fountain of Wealth, a iconic landmark at Suntec City, has been temporarily closed for maintenance from July 5 to 25, according to the mall’s website. This unexpected closure coincided with the shocking incident, adding an extra layer of curiosity to the already bizarre circumstances.
The incident has drawn comparisons to a previous incident in February 2003, when a crane tipped over and damaged the Fountain of Wealth while lowering a Mitsubishi Colt car during a publicity event. The repair bill for that incident amounted to a staggering $850,000, leading to a High Court battle over who should bear the cost.
