11-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) The Road to Gold (RTG) committee is set to convene next week to address the needs of Malaysia’s athletes and ensure a strong chance of securing the country’s first-ever gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, according to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
In response to concerns expressed by national track cycling champion Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang regarding the National Sports Council’s (NSC) inadequate support system in preparing for Paris, the ministry is taking the requests of national athletes seriously.
Yeoh stated, “The RTG committee will meet next week to thoroughly review each request made by the athletes selected for the RTG program. I have been in contact with Azizul through our coordinator Datuk Stuart Ramalingam, and we are fully committed to doing our best to ensure our athletes have the necessary support for a bright chance of winning the gold medal.”
She made these comments during the officiation of the Malaysia Aktif@Komuniti program at PPR Taman Bagan Jaya. The initiative, organized by the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) in collaboration with the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN) and with support from the Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT), aims to cultivate a sports culture among the people, particularly in People’s Housing Programme (PPR) communities and Public Housing Projects (PPA).
The program offers various activities, including aerobics and zumba, with the goal of promoting an active and healthy lifestyle within the community, while also fostering unity, harmony, and overall well-being.
“In the first phase, this zumba program will run every Saturday or Sunday for 30 weeks in two selected PPRs across six states: Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah,” explained Yeoh. She further added, “KBS will cover the cost of trainers for the duration of 30 weeks, until December 2023, with a target participation of 36,000 individuals. The second phase of the program will extend to Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, and Sarawak.”
As Malaysia strives for Olympic success and seeks to build a more active and health-conscious society, the efforts of the RTG committee and initiatives like Malaysia Aktif@Komuniti will play vital roles in shaping the nation’s sporting landscape and supporting its athletes on their journey to victory.
