22-6-2023 (BEIJING) A gas explosion caused by a liquefied petroleum gasĀ (LPG) leak in the kitchen of a barbecue restaurant in Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, at around 8:40 pm on June 21, has resulted in 38 casualties. As of 8 am on June 22, 31 people have died despite rescue efforts, while seven individuals are still receiving treatment (one in critical condition, two with moderate burns, two with minor injuries, and two with glass cuts).
According to state media reports, the fire was successfully put out by firefighters at around 9:20 pm after an emergency response.
Witnesses at the scene claimed that the gas cylinder on the first floor of the restaurant exploded first, which then triggered aĀ natural gas pipelineĀ on the second floor and destroyed the staircase connecting the two floors. The exact cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
