4-6-2023 (BANGKOK) Authorities are currently on the hunt for hackers who infiltrated the websites and social media accounts of government organisations, posting pornographic images and videos. The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau’s deputy commissioner, Pol Maj Gen Amnat Traipote, announced on Sunday that the hackers had breached the online platforms of numerous government entities across several provinces, with violations including the display of explicit material.
While the damage caused by these cyberattacks does not involve financial loss, it does tarnish the reputation and image of the affected organisations, Pol Maj Gen Amnat noted. The exact number of organisations targeted in these cyberattacks has yet to be determined, but according to the deputy commissioner, a police station in the North was among them.
Pol Maj Gen Amnat’s statement came in response to a recent incident involving the hacking of the Facebook page belonging to the Bangkok Provincial Education Office. On Sunday, eight pornographic video clips featuring foreign women performing household chores were posted on the hacked page. In order to address the issue promptly, the office was compelled to create a new Facebook page and inform the public about the breach.
Efforts are currently underway to track down the hackers responsible for these cyberattacks, as authorities aim to mitigate the potential harm caused to government organisations and maintain their online security.
