30-7-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad stated that immigrants cannot claim this country as their own simply because they have contributed to its development.
In a statement titled “Gratitude” posted on social media today, Mahathir expressed that Malaysians appreciate the contributions of these immigrants and their descendants to the nation.
“However, they have already gained considerable returns from their business activities and have become millionaires or even billionaires. Therefore, they cannot claim that this is their country based on these contributions,” he added.
Yesterday, Mahathir asserted that any immigrants who continue to maintain strong ties with their countries of origin should not be granted Malaysian citizenship.
