19-1-2024 (BANGKOK) The forensic police have made significant progress in identifying the victims of the devastating explosion that occurred at a fireworks factory in Suphan Buri. As of Friday, the authorities have successfully identified 15 bodies of the plant workers and other individuals who lost their lives in the tragic incident. The identification process for the remaining eight victims is expected to be completed no later than Saturday, according to Pol Lt Gen Trairong Phiwpan, the chief of the Police Forensic Science Office.
The arduous task of identifying the bodies is being carried out at Wat Rong Chang in Muang district, which has been designated as the primary center for the identification process. The facility aims to streamline the efforts of officials and provide support to the grieving families of the blast victims.
The explosion, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, claimed the lives of 23 people, including the wife and son of the factory owner. The cause of the blast is still under investigation, as authorities meticulously gather evidence from the scene to be sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis and determination.
This unfortunate incident in Suphan Buri marks the second fatal explosion at fireworks factories within a year. In July of the previous year, an explosion at a factory in Sungai Kolok district, Narathiwat, resulted in the loss of 11 lives and left 389 others injured.
