25-1-2024 (MANILA) An eight-year-old boy is currently fighting for his life in a hospital after being severely beaten by his intoxicated father in Barangay Fatima, General Santos City, on Tuesday.
The assailant, identified as 34-year-old carpenter Roy Canlaon, is now detained in a facility at the General Santos City Police Office.
According to a report submitted on Wednesday to Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, the director of the Police Regional Office-12, the General Santos City Police Office revealed that Canlaon’s son is currently in the hospital and receiving critical care with the assistance of a life support machine.
Neighbors who witnessed the incident informed authorities from the Fatima Police Station, operating under the General Santos CPO, that a heavily intoxicated Canlaon became enraged. He repeatedly slapped his son and then violently threw him to the ground when the young boy refused to purchase alcohol from a nearby store. Canlaon and his drinking buddies wanted to continue their drinking session.
While being held in a detention cell on Wednesday morning, Canlaon expressed remorse and acknowledged his readiness to face criminal charges for the harm he inflicted upon his son, speaking to reporters.
