24-5-2023 (California) Technology giants Adobe and Activision Blizzard have unveiled new generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools aimed at augmenting human creativity rather than replacing it. The introduction of these tools seeks to streamline workflows and empower artists and designers to produce exceptional content.
Adobe, renowned for its graphic software, unveiled its latest AI tool, “Generative Fill,” on May 23, 2023. Integrated into its flagship product Photoshop, the tool leverages algorithmic patterns to generate fresh and unique content based on user commands. Graphic designers can now create captivating imagery by simply providing a text prompt, while unwanted elements can be effortlessly added, expanded, or removed using text prompts.
Addressing concerns about AI replacing human creativity, Adobe reassured users that its generative AI software is designed to be a supportive tool, acting as a “co-pilot” to enhance artists’ workflows. Chandra Sinnathamby, Adobe’s Asia-Pacific director of digital media and strategy, emphasized that the goal is to accelerate the design process rather than replace graphic designers entirely. Moreover, Adobe has implemented measures to ensure clear differentiation between human-made content and AI-generated content. Contributing artists will also receive compensation when the AI utilizes their stock photos.
In a similar vein, Activision Blizzard, the creative force behind popular games like Diablo, World of Warcraft, and Overwatch, is exploring the use of AI technology to assist in-game designs. According to a report in the New York Times, the company recently shared plans to develop an image-generating AI tool called Blizzard Diffusion. This tool aims to eliminate repetitive and manual tasks, allowing artists to dedicate more time to unleash their creative prowess.
Although the technology is still in its early stages of development, it is expected to enhance productivity and efficiency within creative teams. Allen Adham, Blizzard’s chief design officer, conveyed the company’s excitement about the potential of AI in revolutionizing game development. In an email to employees, he stated, “We are on the brink of a major evolution in how we build and manage our games.”
Mike Ybarra, the president of Activision Blizzard, further emphasized the company’s commitment to utilizing machine learning and AI to create addictive and empathetic gaming experiences. This strategic adoption of AI technology will enable the creative team to dedicate more time to exceptional thinking and tasks.
The integration of AI technology extends beyond Adobe and Activision Blizzard. Nikesh Arora, the CEO of Palo Alto Networks, recently shared the benefits of generative AI for cybersecurity during an appearance on Mad Money with Jim Cramer. Arora believes that implementing this technology will enhance efficiency and enable the security firm to achieve growth without requiring a proportional increase in the workforce.
