10-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A foreign male tourist was apprehended by the authorities after he was caught naked on the balcony of a hotel facing a busy street in Semporna. The incident was recorded by onlookers and the video quickly circulated, leading to the tourist’s swift arrest.
Sandakan District Police Chief, Inspector Lee Beng Keong, confirmed the incident and stated that the police arrested a 40-year-old foreign tourist on Thursday, 8th June, at 9:30 p.m. in a hotel in connection with the nudity incident.
Inspector Lee revealed that the incident took place on Tuesday, 6th June, around 8 a.m. in a hotel. Shortly after, a 9-second video captured by a bystander surfaced and began circulating.
He highlighted that the police are investigating the case under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code, which pertains to committing an obscene act in a public place. Offenders found guilty under this section could face a maximum of three months’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
“The suspect has been remanded until the 12th of this month to assist in the investigation,” added Inspector Lee.
