5-6-2023 (BANGKOK) Thai authorities are engaged in a frantic search for a missing Chinese woman amid fears that she may have been trafficked across the border into a neighboring country. The woman, known as Angie, arrived in Chiang Mai after a flight from Kuala Lumpur on May 29 and was last seen in the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai. Concerns escalated when her family lost contact with her on June 1.
Angie’s mother is growing increasingly worried as the region is notorious for its large casinos and a history of incidents involving abduction, ransom, and even murder cases.
In a collaborative effort, local police, immigration officers, and tourism police officials in northern Thailand have joined forces to investigate Angie’s disappearance. Authorities have coordinated with local police and border officials to scrutinize CCTV footage, aiming to determine whether the missing woman crossed into Myanmar. Despite these efforts, Angie’s family remains in the dark about her whereabouts.
The family is deeply concerned, having had no contact with Angie for three days, and fears that she may have fallen victim to Chinese grey-business operators who engage in ransom or, worse, murder. Incidents of abduction and ransom involving Chinese nationals in the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai have been reported in the past.
Authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their search for Angie, hoping to swiftly locate her and ensure her safe return to her family.
