13-11-2024 (SINGAPORE) 29-year-old man has been arrested following a violent altercation at Kinex shopping centre in Tanjong Katong that left two men requiring hospital treatment, one with serious injuries.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of 9 November, reportedly began in the third-floor toilets when the suspect allegedly inappropriately touched a 30-year-old sales executive, who wishes to be known only as Dan. The situation escalated into a physical confrontation near the lift lobby, resulting in injuries to both Dan and his companion, a 28-year-old vehicle mechanic identified as Sam.
According to police reports, Sam suffered severe injuries including a dislocated shoulder and bite wounds to his palm and scalp, resulting in 23 days of medical leave. His friend Dan sustained facial scratches and was given two days of medical leave. Both victims were transported to Changi General Hospital by the Singapore Civil Defence Force, which responded to the scene at approximately 9:55 PM.
The victims recounted that the incident unfolded when they were exiting the restroom as the suspect was entering. After an initial confrontation, they reportedly followed the suspect through the mall while awaiting police arrival, concerned he might flee the scene. The pursuit culminated in a physical altercation near the lifts.
Video footage captured by one of the victims shows the suspect denying the touching allegation before attempting to leave the scene. The situation subsequently deteriorated into violence, though the exact sequence of events remains under investigation.
Sam’s fiancée, who identified herself as Shan, expressed concern about the long-term impact of his injuries, noting that his work capabilities have been severely affected and surgical intervention may be necessary.
The suspect was apprehended by police at approximately 9:45 PM and faces charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that investigations into the incident are continuing.
