16-7-2024 (LONDON) South Korean girl group NMIXX brought their infectious “mix pop” sound to the iconic British Summer Time (BST) Hyde Park Festival on Sunday, July 14th, marking a milestone performance with their first-ever live band. The six-piece ensemble, comprising Haewon, Lily, Sullyoon, BAE, Jiwoo, and Kyujin, delivered a captivating set that allowed them to forge a deeper connection with their audience through the dynamic interplay with the live musicians.
Australia-born vocalist Lily, 21, expressed her excitement and disbelief at the opportunity to grace the historic Hyde Park stage, “When I heard that we were performing in this historical park, like, even just visiting here would have been fun, but performing here is so crazy.”
For NMIXX, the BST Hyde Park Festival performance was a new and exhilarating experience, as they embraced the challenge of performing with a live band for the first time. “We honestly don’t have a lot of experience with festivals, but this time we were lucky enough to perform with a band,” Lily shared in a post-show backstage interview.
The live band collaboration added a new dimension to NMIXX’s performance, allowing for greater spontaneity and synergy. “When you’re doing it with a backtrack, you can’t manipulate it as you go. But with a band, you can work together and have good synergy, and you can kind of slow it down if you want to or make it faster. I think that was an interesting thing that we were all getting used to while preparing for the festival,” Lily explained.
Since their debut in early 2022, NMIXX has been on a whirlwind journey, releasing two extended play records, three single albums, and embarking on tours across Asia and the United States. Their track “Love Me Like This” recently surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, while “O.O” and “DASH” are closing in on 200 million streams on the digital music service.
The group’s meteoric rise has extended beyond the music realm, with members attending European catwalk shows for a prestigious Spanish luxury brand, reflecting the growing trend of fashion houses hiring Asian stars for their highest-profile global promotional gigs.
NMIXX treated their Hyde Park audience to a tantalizing preview of their upcoming release, performing their as-yet-unreleased song “Moving On.” The members promised fans that they wouldn’t have to wait long for new music, with Kyujin teasing, “We’re working hard to bring out music that’s new and different.”
Sullyoon added, “I think you’re going to get a hip mix that we haven’t shown you yet. It’s a little bit more free.”
