1-7-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a midnight rescue operation, three Singaporean men found themselves in dire straits after losing their way during a hiking excursion at Apek Hill in Selangor, Malaysia. The harrowing incident unfolded on Sunday, prompting a swift response from local authorities to locate and extract the stranded adventurers.
The trio, all aged 22, had embarked on the hiking adventure accompanied by a Malaysian friend, intending to explore the rugged terrain of Apek Hill. However, as the day progressed, they found themselves disoriented and lost, unable to retrace their steps back to safety.
Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, the assistant director of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, disclosed in a statement that they received a distress call for assistance at approximately 7:19 pm on Sunday night, as reported by China Press.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, a five-person team was promptly dispatched to initiate search and rescue operations. Fortunately, the hikers were able to maintain intermittent communication with the rescue personnel, aiding in their eventual location.
“All the victims were successfully located at about 11:30 pm. They were safe, and there were no injuries,” Ahmad Mukhlis confirmed, providing a much-needed sigh of relief to those following the unfolding drama.
The rescue team’s efforts did not end there, however. After securing the hikers, they embarked on the arduous task of guiding them back down the treacherous slopes of Apek Hill. The operation culminated at approximately 1:02 am on Monday morning, when the three Singaporean men were safely extracted and handed over to local police authorities for further action.
While the details surrounding the circumstances that led to the group’s disorientation remain uncertain, the incident serves as a poignant reminder of the inherent risks associated with outdoor adventures in unfamiliar terrain. It underscores the importance of adequate preparation, proper equipment, and adherence to safety protocols when undertaking such endeavors.
