24-11-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) Coldplay, one of the world’s biggest bands known for their remarkable music and compassionate nature, recently demonstrated their heartfelt kindness during a concert in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia. The band dedicated a song as a tribute to a young fan who tragically passed away before having the chance to attend the show.
The touching story unfolded when the grieving father, Dave John, reached out to a local radio station, Fly FM, in Malaysia. On November 20, the radio station shared an Instagram reel featuring their conversation with Dave, who had lost his 22-year-old daughter, Jade Mikayla John, on November 2.
During the interview, Dave revealed that Jade had been an avid listener of Coldplay from a young age. He expressed her disappointment that the band had never performed in Malaysia, as she often spoke about it. Although the radio host, Ryan Howlett, had no direct contact with Coldplay, he promised to do his best to spread the message and reach out to the band. Dave expressed his gratitude and mentioned that Jade would have been incredibly thankful as well. Her favorite song happened to be ‘Sparks.’
Dave later shared with SAYS, a media outlet, that the immediate and heartfelt support from Fly FM’s radio team was overwhelming. He acknowledged that while it would be amazing for Jade to receive a shoutout from Coldplay, the outpouring of love and support she was receiving online was uplifting. Besides contacting the radio station, Dave did not have any other means of reaching the band. He expressed his desire for Coldplay to display a picture of Jade during one of their songs, as she was an ardent fan, and the concert was meant to be a highlight of her musical journey.
Prior to her untimely passing, Jade had aspirations of establishing a bakery business in the United Kingdom (UK) and living with her soon-to-be husband, Arvin. She was on the verge of attending an internationally recognized bakery school. Describing Jade as a talented and determined young lady, Dave mentioned her knack for craftsmanship and her strength that exceeded her size.
Jade’s profound admiration for Coldplay extended beyond their music. She appreciated the band for their genuine values and admired their musical talent. Coldplay’s music held a special place in her heart.
Finally, Dave’s wish came true when Coldplay delivered a beautiful tribute to Jade during their concert. On November 22, as reported by SAYS, Coldplay performed ‘Sparks’ accompanied by a magnificent fireworks display at Axiata Arena. The band also showcased photos of Jade on massive screens, expressing gratitude to the fan and her family. Coldplay’s lead vocalist, Chris Martin, pointed at the screen and said, “We played that song for our friend, Jade. That’s Jade there, who couldn’t be here today.” He further conveyed their love and support to Jade’s family.
Coldplay’s thoughtful gesture undoubtedly meant the world to Jade’s family, offering solace during their time of grief. The band’s dedication to their devoted fan demonstrates the profound impact music can have on people’s lives.
