16-7-2023 (BANGKOK) Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday in the southern island of Phuket, according to the Thai Foreign Ministry.
Lavrov’s visit to Phuket was in relation to the opening of the Consulate-General of Russia in the popular Thai resort island.
During the meeting, the two diplomats engaged in a productive discussion on various topics of mutual interest. They explored opportunities to enhance trade relations, foster cooperation in science, technology, and innovation (STI), promote cultural and sports exchanges, boost tourism, and expressed support for the initiation of negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) at the earliest convenience.
Additionally, the senior officials exchanged views on regional and global matters, including the current situations in the Asia-Pacific region, Ukraine, and Myanmar, as stated by the Thai Foreign Ministry.
