15-7-2023 (BEIJING) In a surprising turn of events, a 91-year-old woman sought medical attention at a hospital after a fall, only to discover that she had been pregnant for a staggering 60 years. The woman, whose husband passed away when she was in her 30s, hails from Meishan City in China’s Sichuan province.
The astonishing revelation came to light when she fell accidentally in 2007, experiencing pain in her lower back. Within days, her legs started swelling, accompanied by loss of appetite and bouts of nausea and vomiting. Concerned for her well-being, her son promptly took her to the hospital for examination.
To everyone’s astonishment, the medical tests revealed the presence of a fully developed fetus in the woman’s abdomen. Further detailed X-ray examinations confirmed the unthinkable: she had been carrying the pregnancy for 60 years. The incredible journey began in May 1948 when, nine months pregnant, she encountered an unfortunate accident.
The nearest hospital at the time was located several tens of kilometers away and accessible only by boat. Upon reaching the hospital, it was determined that the fetus had already deceased and required surgical removal. However, the exorbitant medical expenses and fears surrounding the operation, given the high mortality rate back then, led the elderly woman to decline the procedure.
Remarkably, after returning home, the woman experienced no adverse health effects. Even the back pain, fatigue, and discomfort associated with her previous pregnancy gradually faded away. Now, upon the discovery of her “pregnancy,” her son accompanied her to a gynecologist, who informed them that the fetus’s skeletal structure had turned into stone, indicating that it had been deceased for many years.
The doctor speculated that after the amniotic fluid leaked and the placenta expelled naturally, the air was gradually expelled as well, resulting in a gradual calcification process due to tight sealing. This miraculous chemical reaction occurred without the woman’s knowledge. Initially, her body absorbed the nutrients from the deceased fetus, aiding in her gradual recovery. Subsequently, the soft tissues of the fetus gradually calcified, forming a solid mass.
