5-11-2024 (PHRAE) A serious collision between an overnight bus and a trailer truck in northern Thailand has left 45 people injured, with one person in critical condition, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:15am on Tuesday along highway 103 in Song district, Phrae province, when the Bangkok-Chiang Rai intercity bus overturned following the collision.
The air-conditioned coach, carrying 47 passengers and crew members, had departed Bangkok the previous evening and was en route to Chiang Saen district in Chiang Rai province when the accident occurred. The occupants of the trailer truck reportedly escaped unharmed.
According to Ramphu Chantapatu, head of Phrae’s provincial disaster prevention and mitigation office, emergency services swiftly transported all injured passengers to Song Hospital for immediate medical attention.
“One passenger has sustained serious injuries, while the remaining 44 victims are being treated for various degrees of trauma,” Ms Chantapatu told officials from the Public Relations Department.
Local law enforcement has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The Highways Department confirmed the incident but has yet to release details about the precise cause of the collision.
