3-2-2025 (SINGAPORE) In a distressing incident at Sengkang Grand Mall, emergency services executed a delicate rescue operation after a young girl’s foot became ensnared in an escalator’s mechanism, leading to her subsequent hospitalisation.
The harrowing scene unfolded at 70 Compassvale Bow, where bystanders witnessed the child’s ordeal. Heart-wrenching footage emerged on social media, capturing a compassionate woman attempting to comfort the visibly distressed youngster, whose left foot had become trapped in the escalator’s side panel.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) swiftly responded to the emergency call, which came through at approximately 6:50 pm on 22nd February. Specialised rescue equipment was deployed to carefully extricate the child’s foot from the stationary escalator.
Amid the tense situation, mobile phone footage revealed a concerned onlooker, who identified herself as not being the child’s mother, liaising with emergency services. The video also captured poignant moments as another woman crouched beside the trapped girl, offering consolation as the child’s cries echoed through the shopping centre.
Following the successful rescue operation, SCDF personnel transported the young patient to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.
