15-12-2023 (BEIJING) On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of a committee on China-US trade, Chinese leader Xi Jinping conveyed a message asserting that China’s modernization efforts would benefit American companies, as reported by state media on Friday.
This message coincided with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s call for China to shift its economic policy away from a state-driven approach, suggesting that such a model might deter investors.
For years, US companies have raised concerns about an allegedly unfair business environment in China, citing issues such as limited protection for intellectual property and preferential treatment given to domestic competitors.
In Xi’s letter, he emphasized China’s commitment to “unswervingly promote high-level opening up to the outside world” and to establish a “market-oriented, rule of law-based, internationalized business environment.”
The letter stated, “Chinese modernization will bring more opportunities to global enterprises, including American ones,” and highlighted the “great potential, broad space, and promising prospects for strengthening China-US trade cooperation,” according to state broadcaster CCTV.
