The Iranian-born wrestling icon, known by his birth name Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, was remembered in an online statement as a dedicated family man and a “force of nature.” After a career spanning several decades in the wrestling industry, he peacefully departed from this world, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
In their statement, his family expressed solace in the knowledge that he passed away peacefully, and they believe his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. The Iron Sheik rose to fame when he became the WWE Champion in 1983, defeating Bob Backlund at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He held the title for just under a month before losing it to the legendary Hulk Hogan, also known as Hollywood Hogan. In recognition of his remarkable contributions, The Iron Sheik was rightfully inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.
