31-7-2023 (SINGAPORE) Tragedy struck at a construction worksite in Tuas when a worker was found unconscious and later passed away in the hospital on Saturday (Jul 29). The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) released a press statement on Monday (Jul 31) confirming the incident.
According to MPA, they received an alert at 9 am on Saturday about an unconscious worker at the Tuas Port Phase 2 construction site. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was also notified and responded to a distress call at approximately 7.50 am.
Upon reaching the scene, a worksite safety coordinator immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the worker, who was employed by the Penta Ocean-Hyundai-Boskalis Joint Venture. Following the initial emergency response, the SCDF promptly transported the worker to the National University Hospital for further medical attention. Sadly, the worker’s life could not be saved, and he passed away later in the evening.
The Ministry of Manpower is currently conducting investigations into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the worker’s sudden collapse. At this time, the ministry has not provided specific details about the case.
Both the contractor and MPA are extending their support to the worker’s bereaved family during this difficult time. CNA has reached out to MPA and the worker’s employer for additional information and updates on the matter.
