18-4-2024 (BRASILIA) In a bizarre incident, Brazilian police reported that a woman attempted to bring a 68-year-old man in a wheelchair into a bank branch to apply for a loan. However, the man had already been dead for several hours.
Erika Vieira Nunes was captured on security camera footage wheeling the deceased man into the bank in a Rio suburb on Tuesday. She informed the teller that the man desired a loan amounting to 17,000 reais ($3,250).
The video footage revealed Nunes holding a pen and attempting to move the man’s hand forward to sign, despite receiving no response. “Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign,” she urged, suggesting that she sign on his behalf. She further commented, “He doesn’t say anything, that’s just how he is,” before stating, “If you’re not okay, I’m going to take you to the hospital.”

Bank staff grew suspicious as the man’s head kept falling back when Nunes stopped holding it. They promptly contacted the police, who arrested her on fraud charges. The deceased man was then transported to the morgue.
Nunes’ lawyer argued that the man died at the bank, but a police forensic analysis revealed that he had passed away earlier while lying down.
