13-6-2023 (NEW YORK) A TikTok user named Sophia (@sophiacelentano48) has stunned viewers by revealing her unique commuting method for her internship in the New York City area. In a recent video, Sophia shared that she chooses to commute by plane every week as the cost of transportation is significantly lower than renting in the city.
In the video, Sophia documented her early morning routine, getting ready at 3 a.m. for her flight from Virginia to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. Explaining her situation, she said, “You might be wondering: ‘Sophia, if you’re working 9 to 5, why the hell are you up at 3 a.m?’ That’s a great question. I am actually going to be commuting to my job one day a week this summer. I’m going to be a corporate marketing intern for an advertising agency. The office I’m working for is in the New York-New Jersey area.”

She went on to clarify that living with her parents in Charleston, South Carolina, and paying for weekly plane tickets was more cost-effective than renting in New York full-time, especially considering she only needs to be in the office one day a week. For her first day of work, she commuted from her boyfriend’s home in Richmond, Virginia, to Newark Airport.
Sophia detailed her schedule for the day, which included taking an Uber to the airport at 4 a.m., a flight from Richmond to Newark at 6 a.m. (arriving at 7:30 a.m.), an Uber to the office, and a full day of orientation from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. She planned to Uber back to Newark Airport and catch a flight to return home to Charleston.
While the video showcased her early flight for the first day, Sophia mentioned that she would usually take a flight arriving at Newark Airport around 8 a.m. every Wednesday. She assured viewers that commuting was her personal decision, and she had been open with her managers about her plan. Sophia emphasized that her living arrangement in South Carolina was never an issue during the interview process, as she had discussed it with her employers beforehand.
Apart from the financial considerations that led her to choose this commuting method, Sophia also mentioned her preference not to live in the New Jersey suburb near New York City for the entire summer.
