16-6-2023 (KUALA LUMPUR) A video circulating online showing a woman claiming to be a senior police officer publicly berating a sergeant with insults and derogatory remarks has sparked controversy. In response, Datuk Hussein Omar, the Chief Police Officer of Selangor, issued a statement today stating that the woman’s identity has been confirmed, and she has been summoned for questioning.
Hussein stated that two investigation files have been opened, citing provisions under the Penal Code sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 186 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of his duty), as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act (using abusive language against a police officer).
The statement did not explicitly mention whether the woman is a police officer, nor did the police invoke any criminal provisions related to impersonating a public servant in their investigation.
According to Hussein, the incident occurred yesterday around 12 noon at a restaurant in Sri Gombak Garden, where the woman engaged in a dispute with a member of the public, accusing them of causing a disturbance at a neighbor’s house. She then loudly proclaimed herself to be a public servant and threatened physical violence.
Refusal to Show Police Identification
“The woman verbally abused everyone present at the scene, and even when lower-ranking police officers arrived to investigate, she refused to cooperate and declined to show her police identification,” he added.
Hussein also mentioned that the woman’s identity has been established, and she has been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department at the Gombak Police District Headquarters for questioning.
“The police once again urge the public not to share or circulate the video, and refrain from commenting on the case to avoid compromising public safety and ongoing police investigations,” he emphasized.
In the 26-second video that has been circulating online, a woman wearing a white shirt can be seen continuously verbally abusing a sergeant, claiming that he is “lower in rank” and “not qualified to investigate her.” Throughout the incident, she raises her voice, while another police officer attempts to defuse the situation and pulls the insulted officer aside.
According to reports, the woman identified herself as an investigating officer from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department in Bukit Aman. She shouted, “Lans Koperal, you are not qualified. Your rank is lower than mine, but your tone sounds like a district police chief. You are truly undeserving. Wait until you are promoted to officer first, Lans Koperal!”

There have been rumors online suggesting that the woman was intoxicated at the time of the incident, while others claim she was present at the location to assist someone in debt recovery. However, these claims have yet to be confirmed by the police.
Following the incident, many netizens expressed strong disapproval of the woman’s public humiliation of a police officer. They believe that even if she holds a senior position, she should not publicly disgrace her fellow officers. Some individuals have taken it upon themselves to search for the woman’s identity on the internet.
