20-4-2024 (KUALA LUMPUR) In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage, police detained a woman on Friday night (April 20) for allegedly splashing hot water on a man with Down Syndrome in an apartment elevator here.
Deputy Superintendent Jafri Md Zain, the acting police chief for Southwest Penang, confirmed the arrest, stating that the 39-year-old suspect was apprehended at 9:21 pm within the apartment premises.
“The woman is a resident of the apartment complex, and she was remanded today (April 20) to aid investigations into the incident,” he disclosed in response to inquiries from Bernama.

Authorities are pursuing the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which deals with assault.
The distressing event unfolded as the 33-year-old victim was returning to his apartment on the 16th floor. Upon investigation, medical officers at Penang Hospital confirmed that the victim sustained burns on the front and back of his right side from exposure to hot water. However, he is reported to be in stable condition.
