8-2-2024 (SINGAPORE) A 25-year-old woman was apprehended at Changi Airport on January 22 for misusing her boarding pass to gain entry into the airport’s transit area, purportedly in a bid to get close to a Korean idol group. She stands accused of violating the Infrastructure Protection Act.
The Singapore Police Force released a statement on Thursday (February 8), disclosing the arrest and detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigations revealed that the woman purchased a ticket solely to acquire a boarding pass, subsequently exploiting it to access the airport’s transit area with the aim of interacting closely with the Korean male idol group.
As the woman had no intention of departing Singapore yet obtained a boarding pass, authorities detained her under suspicion of contravening the Infrastructure Protection Act. The investigation remains ongoing.
According to reports from “Lianhe Zaobao,” the South Korean idol group ENHYPEN coincidentally arrived in Singapore to kick off a world tour concert at the time of the woman’s offence. Law enforcement disclosed that throughout 2023, 23 individuals were arrested for misusing their boarding passes.
With numerous international concerts scheduled locally, the police issued a reminder to the public emphasizing that the Changi Airport transit area is a restricted zone. Only passengers preparing to board flights to other destinations are permitted entry.
Individuals found misusing their boarding passes to gain entry into the transit area without intending to leave the country may face fines of up to S$2000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, if convicted.
