Eyewitnesses recounted a harrowing scene where a man allegedly pursued and attacked people with a knife, prompting the evacuation and lockdown of the Westfield complex in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
As per initial reports, at least four individuals sustained stab wounds, with one fatality confirmed. The assailant wielding the knife was reportedly shot by law enforcement officers.
Emergency services, including police units and ambulances, swiftly responded to the unfolding crisis. Distressed individuals were observed outside the shopping centre, some with visible signs of injury.
A young witness, currently taking refuge in a store, described hearing gunshots and distressing screams, expressing profound fear and anxiety amidst the chaos.
Earlier, footage surfaced showing panicked individuals fleeing across the pedestrian bridge adjacent to the shopping centre. Evacuation procedures were also underway in the centre’s car park.

Additional reports surfaced, indicating that shoppers sought refuge in the David Jones department store, which swiftly closed its shutters amid rumors of an armed individual within the premises.
