3-1-2024 (HANOI) Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast is set to establish its inaugural Indian manufacturing facility in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, according to three sources familiar with the matter.
The plant, located in the city of Thoothukudi, will primarily focus on the production of batteries for electric vehicles, one of the sources revealed. This initiative is distinct from VinFast’s earlier announcements about assembling vehicles shipped in parts from Vietnam.
VinFast, a key contender in the electric vehicle market, competes with prominent automakers like Tesla and China’s BYD. Despite repeated requests for comments, the company chose to remain silent on the matter. However, in a statement released on Wednesday, VinFast mentioned that it would disclose detailed plans at an “appropriate time.”
As of now, there has been no response from the Tamil Nadu government spokesperson regarding this development.
