14-6-2024 (MANILA) In a startling display of defiance, a Vietnamese tourist caused an uproar at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, Philippines, by stripping naked in protest over a fee dispute.
The incident unfolded on Saturday, June 8th, when 34-year-old Nguyen Thuytrang, fresh from her holiday in the Philippines, found herself embroiled in a disagreement with authorities over alleged visa overstay fees.
According to police reports, Nguyen had just completed her vacation when she was confronted with demands for payment related to her visa status. Enraged by the situation, the tourist vehemently disputed the charges before storming off into the women’s restroom at the airport, notorious for its poorly managed operations.
Moments later, in a shocking turn of events, Nguyen emerged completely unclothed and calmly strode through the security gates and body scanners, leaving bystanders and airport staff utterly bewildered.

Footage captured the brazen act, depicting the nude tourist walking past security personnel towards the departure immigration counter, with perplexed ground staff trailing behind, uncertain of how to handle the unprecedented situation.
Airport authorities swiftly intervened, providing Nguyen with clothing, food, and drinks in an attempt to diffuse the tense situation. Remarkably, despite her defiant actions, she did not appear to harm other passengers or cause significant delays.
APO1 Michael Ronald de Guzman, a police officer stationed at NAIA Terminal 3, recounted the incident, stating, “We asked around and learned that the woman went to immigration and was allegedly offloaded. She was due to fly to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) but her visa had issues. She went straight to the public toilet at departures, and she walked out of there without any clothes on. We don’t know why she did that.”
General Manuel Sequitin, Assistant General Manager for Security and Emergency Services, shed light on the communication challenges faced by officials, explaining, “The tourist was about 34 years old. She appeared a little irritable because she couldn’t communicate in Tagalog, and she didn’t speak English well. She only knew Vietnamese, so we were communicating with her through Google Translate. She is already ok. After some time, she was clothed.”
Following a medical evaluation and the settlement of her overstaying fees, Nguyen was eventually permitted to board a flight to Hanoi, Vietnam, the next morning, bringing an end to the bizarre incident.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport, a state-run facility, has garnered a reputation for subpar service and operational issues. In 2022, an American luggage app, Bounce, ranked it as the world’s worst airport for business class travelers, placing it at the bottom of a list of 38 airports worldwide.
