14-6-2024 (HANOI) Police in Vinh, Nghe An, have expanded their investigation into a transnational drug trafficking ring recently dismantled, resulting in the seizure of over 20 kilograms of narcotics.
The operation came to a head at around 12:05 p.m. on June 12th, along Ho Chi Minh Road in Thanh Thuy commune, Thanh Chuong district. Vinh City Police, in collaboration with Thanh Chuong District Police and the Thanh Thuy Border Post, successfully intercepted and apprehended 34-year-old Xayyasone Xay from Bolikhamsai province, Laos, who was caught in the act of transporting drugs.
The suspect’s backpack contained 3 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 170,000 methamphetamine tablets, totaling approximately 20 kilograms of various drugs. Following this, the investigation widened, leading to the arrest of 34-year-old Le Ngoc Duong from Vinh City, Nghe An, in the early hours of June 13th. Duong was identified as an accomplice of Xayyasone Xay.
According to the investigative team, the suspects involved in this transnational drug trafficking network are foreign nationals operating in the complex geographic regions near the border. The operation’s success underscores the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
In the first half of June 2024 alone, Vinh City Police have arrested and processed 35 cases involving 46 individuals. They have successfully dismantled two major operations and eradicated nine illegal drug retail points across the locality, marking a significant stride in the fight against drug crime.
