4-12-2024 (HANOI) A construction company has been hit with a significant fine after failing to implement proper safety measures during roadworks on National Highway 1, leading to several motorcycle accidents in the Vietnamese capital.
The incident, which occurred on the evening of 2 December, saw multiple motorcyclists lose control of their vehicles due to scattered construction debris and inadequate warning signage. The affected area was located at kilometre marker 197+640 in Thang Loi Commune, Thuong Tin District.
Following public complaints, Road Traffic Police Team No. 8 and the Thuong Tin district Traffic Inspection Team launched a joint investigation into the safety breach. Their inspection revealed that while Khanh Chi Ha Nam Construction Investment Co., Ltd held valid permits from the Hanoi Department of Transport for road repairs between kilometres 197+300 and 198+500, the company had failed to meet crucial safety requirements.
The contractor’s violations included insufficient deployment of warning signs and delayed road surface restoration, creating hazardous conditions for motorists. In response, authorities imposed a fine of 12 million Vietnamese dong and mandated immediate implementation of proper safety protocols before work could resume.
Additional requirements issued to the construction firm included accelerating the project’s completion timeline and deploying adequate personnel to manage traffic flow during ongoing works. The authorities emphasised that the company would bear full legal responsibility for any accidents occurring during the construction period.
A follow-up inspection conducted on 3 December confirmed that the contractor had complied with the directives, with the road cleared and traffic flowing normally through the area.
