22-7-2023 (HANOI) Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim came to a mutual agreement on Friday to strengthen bilateral trade and reduce trade barriers between their respective nations. This development was reported by Vietnam News Agency.
The two leaders expressed their immense satisfaction with the progress made in the relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia, particularly since it was elevated to a strategic partnership back in 2015.
During their meeting, the prime ministers reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering delegation exchanges and facilitating high-level contacts through various channels, including Party, State, Government, and National Assembly avenues.
In addition, both leaders reached a consensus on exploring the establishment of a mechanism that would enable them to hold regular or periodic meetings and exchanges in flexible formats at multilateral forums.
It’s worth noting that Malaysia currently holds the position of Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner within the ASEAN region and ranks ninth globally. Moreover, Malaysia is among the top ten countries with the highest investments in Vietnam, as reported by the news agency.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Vietnam spanned two days, commencing on Thursday. This visit marks the first time he has visited the Southeast Asian nation since assuming office in 2022.
