8-8-2024 (HANOI) In a move poised to fortify Vietnam’s burgeoning aviation landscape, budget carrier VietJet has unveiled plans to receive up to 10 brand-new Airbus jets into its fleet this year. This announcement comes at a pivotal juncture when domestic airlines are grappling with a shortage of aircraft due to engine recalls by manufacturers and soaring leasing costs.
The impending arrivals, predominantly comprising the cutting-edge A321neo ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex) model, are slated for delivery from the current month onwards, according to an official statement released by VietJet on Thursday. This strategic acquisition underscores the airline’s commitment to meeting the escalating demand for air travel within Vietnam and beyond.
VietJet’s ambitious order book with Airbus stands at an impressive 206 aircraft, complementing its existing fleet of over 100 operational planes. The low-cost carrier’s recent dealings with the European aviation giant have further solidified this partnership, as evidenced by last month’s landmark contract for 20 A330neo wide-body aircraft valued at a staggering $7.4 billion, based on the manufacturer’s list prices.
